The wait is over! The signatures collected; legislation passed. As of October 1st, The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center has its very own license plate celebrating the children, families and staff at Maine’s only full-service children’s hospital.

"The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital specialty license plate is the culmination of years of work from thousands of Mainers who have provided their support, their advocacy and their signatures. We appreciate everyone who has had a part in making this plate available, including the Legislature, the governor and the families of our patients, who understand how important this kind of community support is to improving the health of Maine’s children.” - Rich Petersen, Maine Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer

The plate is now available to purchase statewide at every local Motor Vehicle Branch Office and select Town Offices in Maine.

The plate costs $20 to purchase and $15 to renew each year. BBCH will receive $10 from every plate sold and $10 from every annual renewal fee.

Help us achieve our goal of getting 20,000 BBCH plates on Maine roads within five years. This would mean $200,000+ of additional funds each year to benefit our patients and families…for generations to come! You can help by purchasing a plate and encouraging your friends and family to do the same!

Some examples of how community donations will be used to enhance patient care at Maine’s only full-service children’s hospital in 2018/19:

-          Angel Two Ambulance

Why should I purchase a BBCH license plate?
By purchasing a BBCH license plate, you are supporting an initiative that is projected to raise $200,000+ of much-needed funds each year to enhance the lives and health outcomes of our pediatric patients.

Where can I purchase a BBCH license plate?
You can purchase a BBCH plate at every local Motor Vehicle Branch Office and select Town Offices in Maine.

How much does the specialty license plate cost?
The plate costs $20 to purchase. The only other expense is a $15 annual renewal fee added to your regular vehicle registration fee.

How much of this will benefit the children’s hospital?
BBCH will receive an incredible $10 of every new plate sold and $10 of every annual renewal. Every dollar of which will directly benefit our pediatric programs and services.

Can I keep my current vanity plate number?
Yes! As long as your vanity plate number includes no more than six numbers or letters and a dash or space. (EXCEPTION: If the vanity plate is duplicated in another Maine license plate style option, it will not be available. This is a statute designed to eliminate potential risk of misidentification).

Can I keep my current low digit and/or out-of-rotation plate numbers?
Unfortunately not. Low digit and out-of-rotation plate numbers are any plate numbers between 1 through 9999 and 1A - 99A through 1ZZ - 99ZZ.

Can I keep my current standard plate number?
Unfortunately not. The Bureau of Motor Vehicles will not allow out of sequence plates to be issued in this plate class. It’s either a vanity plate or the next one in the stack, so you can’t keep your plate number from another class.

How can I help?
Once you’ve purchased your plate, please encourage your family, friends and co-workers to do the same. ‘Like’ the BBCH Facebook page and share our license plate posts. If you’d be willing to help us get the word out by putting up posters in your local supermarket, coffee shop, place of work etc., please contact Matt Parks at 207.662.6111 or and he will mail copies to you. Thank you!
