John Lualdi, MD served our Maine community as a practicing cardiologist and physician-educator for 25 years, helping thousands of students, patients and community members.
His expertise in valvular heart disease and echocardiography helped propel numerous clinical programs at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center; he received an unprecedented number of nominations from his colleagues to earn The George L. Higgins III, MD Award, which awards a superior clinician who is also widely recognized for both their dedication and their superlative abilities as an educator. His dedication to teaching was recognized with the prestigious “Fellowship Teacher of the Year” Award on three separate occasions.

John Lualdi, MD, always prioritized improving his patients' cardiovascular health in an effort to optimize their quality of life and longevity, and he took pride in teaching future cardiologists as a faculty member at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center (MHMMC). When John was diagnosed with a rare, incurable blood cancer, his community of friends and family established this endowment with the goal of honoring John’s legacy of extraordinary clinical skills and dedication to cardiovascular care, non-invasive imaging and medical education. The second Annual Dr. John Lualdi Cardiac Grand Rounds will take place on September 25, 2025, at 7 a.m. at the Charles A. Dana Health Education Center at MaineHealth Maine Medical Center. James A. de Lemos, MD will present the lecture “Using Biomarkers to Add Precision to Cardiovascular Medicine, Prevention and Population Health: Hype or Hope?”.
The inaugural Dr. John Lualdi Cardiac Grand Rounds, held on September 12, 2024, featured John’s mentor, Pamela S. Douglas, MD, MACC, FASE, FAHA, Ursula Geller Distinguished Professor of Research in Cardiovascular Disease at Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Douglas presented her research “Improving the Evaluation of Suspected CAD Using Randomized Trial Evidence.”
